Alex Grant Wins Sundance SpinCyclist Picks up the Pace of the Intermountain Cup Racing Series
The hot sun a dust did not stop Alex Grant from handily winning the Sundance Spin of the Intermountain Cup Bike Racing Series.
Alex Grant, racing for Titus and Pearl Izumi, won the Pro Men division of the 3rd annual Sundance Spin, part of the Intermountain Cup Bike Racing Series on Saturday, June 2, 2007. With a time of 1:55:24, Grant easily beat the 17 other pro riders, with Thomas Spannring coming in second, nearly 3 minutes later, with a time of 1:58:11. Third place went to Bart Gillespie, who came in at 1:59:00. After the first loop, Alex Grant had and held a clean lead, completing the lap in just 34 minutes. When asked how he felt after the race, Grant stated, “I feel like I could have gone another lap!” Last Year’s 2006 Sundance Spin, held at Sundance Ski Resort in Utah, did, in fact, have an additional lap. Last year, the race included 4 full loops (7.6 miles and 1,100 vertical feet climbing per lap) for the pro men, while this year’s race included 3 full loops and an additional “12 year old loop,” a 1.5 mile loop with a 300 vertical foot climb. Grant handily beat his last year’s 6th place time of 2:33:58. The 2006 race was won by Eric Jones, with a time of 2:24:40, and Thomas Spannring (this year’s second place rider) came in second with 2:28:01. Off to a self-described “slow start” this year, Grant has picked up the pace and continues to do better and feel better with each race he completes. Riding on a borrowed bike for his previous races this year, Grant finally got to race his new titanium Titus eleven fcr at Sundance. Needless to say, he’s happy with the new bike.
